Chicken Pox

Yes, you read it right. My kids have all gotten the chickenpox at different times within the last month. Yes, they've been vaccinated, but not with the second shot. I'm thinking we picked it up on a plane or somewhere along our travels , because no one at school had gotten them. We were in Montana and Hailey kept complaining of itching on her stomach and back. She had a few spots and Hyrum said that they looked like chicken pox. I told him that she'd been vaccinated, so it couldn't be that. My mom also thought they were and we looked up that the vaccine is only 75-90% accurate with that first dose they get when they are a year old. Our school district, as I later found out only requires one dose and will start requiring the 2 doses next year. *sigh*

Hailey had hers over Christmas break, Logan got his on the way back, and Lauren followed Logan a few days later. They have been very light cases, thankfully and gotten over it quickly. You wouldn't even know they were sick except for the spots. But then my little Spencer, who is only 10 months and hasn't been vaccinated got it the day I returned from the hospital last week. He had it worse than any of them, was running a little fever, had them in his ears and around his eyes and just got so frustrated with them. But he was just a little trooper, and it was actually turned out to be a good week because Danielle could help, we didn't have anywhere we needed to be and we just hung out here together. The best news??? We are done with them and will never get them again and Spencer doesn't have to get the vaccine for it! You may want to make sure your kids' shot records and make sure they've gotten that 2nd dose. I think most places are starting to require it because they've had lots of breakthrough cases. Never a dull moment here! :)
