It was as beautiful evening at Carthage and we were basically the only ones there:
Standing by the door of the upper bedroom with the actual bullet holes:
The bedroom where the martyrdom took place:
The girls whipping up a primitive homecooked meal in the kitchen downstairs:
The kids loved running and playing on the lawn after a long day of travel:
Put on your best Joseph/Hyrum face:
The next day we hit Nauvoo. It was very, very hot.
At Joseph & Hyrum’s grave:
Joseph Smith Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith graves:
Joseph’s Red Brick Store:
Joseph Smith’s office inside:
The upper room. This is where the R.S. was organized! Mandy is re-enacting :)
The Smith’s summer kitchen:
The mansion house:
bakery:
The Nauvoo band was fantastic:
Logan loved the gunsmith:
Lauren’s elephant ears!
The blacksmith:
Logan got the horseshoe because he had the next birthday!
That night before the pageant they had a big fair with pioneer games. The kids LOVED it and still say it’s one of their favorite things of the trip.
The sunset over the Mississippi
The Nauvoo temple was unreal. So, so beautiful, it almost looks fake.
The pageant was amazing:
with Parley P. Pratt :)
and Joseph
and of course, Hyrum Smith himself!
The next morning we headed down to the end of Parley Street:
and bid farewell to Nauvoo and began our long journey home…
What an amazing trip.
