Holy cow! I can't believe how fast the month is going. It has been good, but emotional week. On Wednesday, Lauren and Hailey were both home with strep throat (isn't it too early in the season to be starting this??), I was trying to get dinner ready to take to the Johnson's (the family that lost their son, Geoffrey in Iraq), I had my doctor appt, and had to pick up a prescription for Hailey. I was so humbled when we took dinner in, and realized how insignificant our problems were, when they had just been to a ceremony at the airport when their son's body came in from Iraq that afternoon. The viewing was Thursday and the funeral was Friday, and meeting his wife and 4 little children was very humbling and strengthening~they are amazing. It's crazy how comforting and even uplifting LDS funerals are, because we are reminded that this is just a small portion of the journey, and what is really important. We have truly been strengthened by the Johnson family this week. Their blog is at http://amarajohnson.blogspot.com/ and there is a trust fund set up for their children if you would be able to donate anything. It is just heartwrenching to hear the story and to see the kids and how normal their lives are in the posts leading up to his death, and how quickly life can forever change.
Friday night, we went out to the pumpkin patch. (see above post for pictures) We also had our stake conference this weekend. Hyrum and I went Saturday night, and then we all went on Sunday and it was one of the most enjoyable Sundays I have ever had because Hyrum took on both the boys for the whole meeting, and I got to listen to everything! Our visiting authority was Elder Kevin W. Pearson of the Seventy. He was such a great speaker and so down to earth. He spoke about being in graduate school, and being overwhelmed with his kids, and job, and calling and just reminded us to look at where our hearts are and at what we have covenanted, and of the quote by Elder Maxwell, “If you have not chosen the kingdom of God first, it will in the end make no difference what you have chosen instead.” He also focused his talk on the vision of the tree of life and kept asking us after giving many examples of worldliness, how close to the tree are you? He also reminded us to not focus on the huge gap of our constantly falling short, but to focus on the enabling power and grace of Jesus Christ to close it, again, and again, and again. It was such an uplifting, renewing weekend with inspiration to do and be better.
Football is getting exciting~we were sad to see BYU lose at TCU, and couldn't believe that they showed the sign that one of the TCU fans was holding that said, "Mormons don't do well in Texas, just ask anyone in Eldorado" Pretty sad. I think they kind of took it on as a personal quest to beat the mormons, and I just want the Utes to thump them when they play in Salt Lake and officially welcome them to Utah.
The Utes, the Broncos, and the Red Raiders are all still undefeated though! We just sold our tickets to the Texas-Texas Tech game for $350, which we were thrilled about. My appointment went well, other than the fact I get to start wearing my blessed nylons for my varicose veins. Thank goodness the weather has been much cooler this week~they are still hot and scratchy though. Uggghh.
Other than that, we're gearing up for all of the Halloween festivities this week~the kids are so excited!

I am sorry about the strep throat! What a week! Thanks for sharing it. Love you.
p.s. Am I missing the pics of the pumpkin patch somewhere?
I had fun looking at your blog, your kids are cute and your shopping is quite extraordinary. Nice to keep in touch. Michael
Oh I missed seeing pictures of you guys! Lauren is getting so big - she looks like a young women now. Tell her to stop growing! And I loved reading about Logan's birthday and all of his favorite things to do. What a cute kid. We really need to see you soon. Mckenna needs to meet her cousins. I was trying to show her while I was looking at the blog and when I played the video of Spencer she just watched him, almost like she knew who he was. Good luck with all your adventures. You are a busy mom but are so good at it and are a great example. Love you!

Also thanks for sharing your thoughts of Stake Conference- I love those weekends- so much inspiration and much needed council- we have ours next week and I'm so excited.
